Walk-in coolers and walk-in freezers are the heart of any supermarket grocery store refrigeration system. Almost every restaurant you walk into has these types of coolers and freezers. They can go up to 6 by 6 feet by 6 feet lengths up to any customary size depending on the requirement. These systems can be very basic but can be very complicated depending on the application they are installed for. Like any other type of cooler and freezer, they come in all different brands, models, sizes, and capacities. Commercial walk-in fridges have an evaporator which is also known as the indoor unit, and at the same time have a condensing unit which is also known as the outdoor unit. Also, there are a bunch of other components like the liquid receiver, suction accumulator, and a variety of other electrical stuff. Like any other refrigeration cycle, the refrigerant just rotates around in a circle picking up the unwanted heat from indoors where it is not required and throwing it outdoors where it makes no difference at all. For commercial walk-in coolers, we have 3 different temperature ranges-one is high, one is medium temp, and then low temp. The indoor evaporator could be of one fan but can go up to 6 to 8 fans depending on the size of the cooler and the product nature it is being used for. At the same time, the outdoor condensing unit could be one, two, three, or four fans depending on what application it is being put in for. These walk-in coolers and freezers can be seen everywhere from supermarkets to grocery stores, dairy and ice-cream storage, then industries, and so on. The high-temperature refrigeration ranges from 50-60’F and that’s where you wanted the product to be cool, not colder or frozen. The application includes flower shops and air conditioning used in homes. Medium temperature ranges from 35-50’F and includes any dairy product like cheese, milk, yogurt, or beers where you want the product to be colder. The low temp ranges from 0 up until -20’F. This is where all the frozen stuff needs to be stored like frozen foods, ice-creams, and ice itself.
